Based on some research my guess would be that it was once the face of a lantern clock-- a type of antique weight-driven wall clock shaped like a lantern which became common in the 17th century as  the first type of clock widely used in private homes--and based on comparison with other examples I would guess this dates to the 18th century

and very small dings here and there

The interior of this one is the color of terra cotta

in which case I'd like to think he has cleverly knotted the other end with his tongue

Where's My Cufflink? c. 1900 Coney Island Tin Souvenir Box hill's blocks Based on some research myJust a fun little box, which I especially like for having been a souvenir from Coney Island where one imagines ore than a few cufflinks were lost! With good lettering and a nice rebus sort of aspect to it too. I found one other of these listed out there that one from the Pan American Expo in 1901, so I presume this one dates to just about then. 3 1 2" x 2" x 1 1 16" t and in great condition.
